Free ftp space for file storage/retrieval

Does anyone know a good reliable site where I can sign up for free ftp space for sending and retrieving large files. My mail box seems to have a limit of about 4MB on email attachments so this may be a way around it. I'll need at least 20MB of space. It's not for hosting a website just sending and retrieving large Word doc files (still large when zipped).

Thanks in advance

  • Try out http://www.savefile.com/

Can save 60MB worth here for free, so will last you into the future too. Hope it helps.

I think this is what you are looking for:

  • Thanks to the two above who posted suggestions. Had a look at http://www.savefile.com but when I tried to upload a file using the Standard option I got the message Fileservers full. Perhaps the Members version would be better. Had a look at http://www.yousendit.com . This sends large files to an email address so if I got someone to use this to send me a file I would run into the problem with the 4MB file attachment limit on emails I mentioned earlier. My email provider would bounce the email.
An FTP site would be best, that way I could download a file straight to a directory on my PC and bypass the email problem.
Anyone got any suggestions for a good free FTP service for sending or receiving large files? Thanks

Check if your ISP gives you any free space. I was looking around like you are, but found it best to use the 20mb Eclipse include as part of the service. Works brilliantly as an offsite backup for my work.

I was going to say the same as wolfman. I get 1GB of free webspace with my ISP (Zen). I find this very handy for uploading large files onto a simple webpage (bit of text explaining the file+file and no background). My cousin in Australia can access the page and download large clips and pics of the family.

You have misunderstood how this works. Read the info here - http://www.yousendit.com/howdoesitwork.aspx

It is only a link to the file that is sent to your mail. You then download the file.
