you could try in a florists, or if you have a traditional fruit shop that still makes fruit baskets, they would have some too

Making up a mini hamper which will be themed for a chill out/veg out night - bag of microwave popcorn, fav choc, soda, gift voucher for a dvd from blockbusters and a fridge magnet with teacher and my child's photo. Teaching assistants getting some really nice looking candles shaped like water lilies.

How about a plant pot filled with seeds, maybe a trowel and gloves? (poundland does a pretty set) And a little hand made tag saying 'thankyou for helping me grow' :) You could wrap in cellophane or just pop into a gift bag/box.:)

I think this is a fantastic idea, but at a person fanatical about gardening I would. My boyfriend saves the cards from his pupils. they are very special, and great to look at after a bad day, but I bet in pre-school they don't have many of them!

  • I am always aware of the what my wicked evil stepmonster did who was a teacher, she would keep the gifts from the kids and give them out as pressies to people over the year...but as i said she was evil! I try to get personal things...for instance the leader of my daughters pre school last year admitted she liked donny osmond but never had the nerve to admit it before and she always felt flushed when she saw him on tv, so I gave her some of my 12 inch prints from concerts I had been to, his latest cd, and his most recent autobiography...she loved it :) then her named teacher, was always riding her bike to and from pre school and my little one was horrified she never wore a helmet, so we went to halfords and chose a helmet and a pink shiny bell (little one insisted she would love this) and she seemed to.

for xmas past my daughters reception teacher and the class assitant got personalised mugs, I got my little one to draw a pic of the teacher/assistant and write their name, then I scanned it into the computer and uploaded it to one of the sites that prints mugs, so it was very personal, was their name but art work by the little one :)

getting a bit stuck now for the end of the year lol but one of the things I was thinking of doing was using the class photo and having it done on a jigsaw and donating it as a class gift...thought it may be nice for the little ones next year to see the year above and make a different puzzle than regular ones etc

my daughters classes are all called after trees, so may try and get a gift along the lines of the class name....must get my thinking cap on lol

in the past when I was strapped for cash, ikea had some very nice glass vases for 90p, wrapped in tissue with the ikea label off u would never know lol and as i had 3 kids in school normally with a helper too...these were cheap but quite nice gifts and even if they did give them away like the step monster did...it was only 90p if u get me. In the past I have made magnets in a draw package with a pic of the little one and a thank u message.

Finished my son's pre-school teacher pressies this morning (should be doing the cleaning but hey ho!). Each lady is getting a pic with a thank you message; a cross stitched coaster (made by me); a flannel cupcake (made by me); a mug and a few chocs wrapped in cellophane. Cost about £3.50 each pressie I think. Have made up 7 bags (the 'gift bags' are plain brown sandwich bags from Home Bargains - about 90p for 10).

My son is leaving junior school and going to "big" school, his teachers have been exceptionally nice this year and so are getting one of these each altered notebooks made by myself. (sorry dont have any piccys yet). I have printed some school things off free from the cannon website or hewlett packard website and altered my own version with a picture of my son on the front. All i need to do is attach a pen to them and would of only cost me the price of a book £2 and a pen. Hopefully they will use them all year.

Really lovely notebooks minimacka, very creative :D

Just wanted to say thanks for the idea - ended up dropping my original plan in favour of it.

I had some enamelled plant pots left over from another project, so the boys decorated them with paints and stickers, the pots already had plant markers with them, so we added a pair of gardening gloves and a packet of seeds, dropped it all into a pretty cello bag and this is the end result -
