Hi
We recently downloaded a new version of Windows XP Professional onto our laptop at home. We are now unable to connect to the internet because we can't seem to re-install the Ethernet Card (PC-Line) - can anyone help?? When I look under 'control panel' the ethernet card symbol is yellow... I don't have any software to install the Ethernet card - does anyone know if I can download software from the net?
Hope you can help!!
Thanks

do a google search for the make and model of ethernet card you have, you should be able to find something.
If you download Belarc Advisor it should tell you what the ethernet card isIt's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Hi
I have a PCLINE Giga Lan CardBus Card Model No PCL-GIGA1
I can't seem to find driver software anywhere on the net - can anyone help?0 -
Have you tried right clicking on the Network Card in Device Manager, then click on Driver and there should be an option to update the driver. You should be able to search Windows Update for a driver through there, that's probably a good place to start..0

I had a look at the network card in Device Manager but it was yellowed out. I can't remember right clicking on it but will try tonight. To search windows update for a driver, do I need to be on the internet?0

Yep.
If that card is how you would connect to the internet, then I think you might have to go into PC World and ask them if they can give you a copy of the drivers on a disk instead..0 -
yeah we can't connect to the internet at the mo until we install the ethernet driver... i went into pcworld last week and they told me i should be able to download the software from the internet. i'll go back tonight and see what they say...
thanks0 -
With all this pfafing about you might just as well go and buy a new card adapter
Maplins at 9.99

The one you have is capable of very highspeed network, but I suspect your router is not so you can buy a lower spec and you will not notice the difference.
PC world have their lower version at 9.97

OR Take a blank cd with you and the card to prove you have it and ask if they would kindly make you copy of the drivers from their stock, they can only say no but they might just say yes if you do it when they are not busy!0 -
I was going to buy another card - they had one in PC world for £5 but it had floppy disk software - my laptop doesn't have a floppy disk drive! i thought i'd see if i could download the software for free rather than having to fork out £20 for a new card that comes with CD software... this is a money saving website after all! thanks for the maplin link - never heard of the shop...0
