ok just to clarify - the original question was as to wether they would stop the hb altogether until they worked out what the new amount would be - considering the actually gross monthily income from the salary then according to the entitled website it says that a amount of £40 probably would be payable. But as knowing that should not take the calculators that appear on the site as gospel as they do vary from council to council.

and to elle83 my post wasnt a rant but highliting the crap goverment who sets these policies in place where people like you and me have to survive on very minimal, with the threats of evictions etc until the claim is sorted out.

there should be specific timelines for claims to be approved so people are not left like this.

also from private landlords point of view there are a few who still have to pay the mortgage on the property concerned and its very unlikely that their mortgage company are going to allow them lewave whilst the council sorts out the hb claim.

There are time limits, I think it might be 14 days (maybe 28) and if it hasn't been sorted by then, and the applicant has supplied all info requested, they have to pay "something", usually at a "safe" rate.

Phone the council to check the limit, and phone them if it's reached without any payment being received and then ask them to send a "safe" rate payment.
