I found this blog about getting info off DVD camcorders, but if you can't even playback a finalised disk on your PC then even that looks like a non starter, you are not using a DVD RAM disk by any chance as i doubt whether a typical DVD drive on a PC will be compatible with it.
The guy in the blog is suggesting using Roxio easy media creator which someone mentioned before.

    The disc is a DVD-RW.
This is so annoying - do all people who buy dvd camcorders find out to their peril after they have used it that they can't transfer or edit their videos??!!
Or is it a stupid Panasonic thing?!

Hmmmm... there was me thinking that I posted links to the required software.

Maybe I accidentally posted that on this board, but in a parallel universe.

Maybe no one can see me.....

    More info here: Panasonic
Do you have DVD playing software on your computer? A good no cost option; VLC Media Player.
To edit footage on the HDD as opposed to the camcorder: mpeg video wizard

Apologies :o & yes i can see you.
I followed the moviealbumn link & it lost me when it got to the:

Prepare a folder on your hard disk ready to accept the downloaded file. The following explanation assumes that the hard disk is called C, and that a folder called "MS_Up" has been created in its root.

I've no idea how to do this! Would this download help the transfer from cam to pc or disc to pc as I don't won't to download something if its not going to help.
The main problem is the above & then your other links would be a great help.

If you can help with the above folder creation (if you feel moviealbumn is best for transfer recognition) then i'd be hugely grateful :T
    Apologies..

Sorry, I think that the first link is for the wrong software. It is MediaStage , not MovieAlbum.

I'll dig up some software for you.

Ok, to simplify things, it seems that you have to remove the DVD from the camcorder to the PC in order to transfer the files.
Assuming that the disc has been 'finalised', you will need some software which can recognise the finished disc.
The free VLC Media Player will do this.
Download and install it to your computer.
For editing, you will need one of the aforementioned programs. They are not free but generally have time-limited trials.

    That's great - I shall give it a go!
I was just about to post when I saw you'd beaten me as I rang a Panasonic number I found. Bloke there said that the pc needs something like Pinnacle Studio in order to recognise, transfer & edit the video. He says that way the dvd can be put into the drive, recognised, saved & then you can edit. Sounds fine but typed it into Google/Ebay & its mega bucks!!

Do you know of any free download or trial versions of this or would you advise to go with the VLC & one of the editing progs.??

For editing, you will need one of the aforementioned programs from TMPG or Womble. They are not free, but generally have time-limited trials.

Your question is covered here: camcorderinfo

    Just use VLC for viewing.

As for Pinnacle, is your PC up to it? Check for the minimum running specifications.
