Postage costs, to the Moon?

Ooooo I love ebay, but yet again have spotted something I would like to buy, only to spot a huuuuuge postage cost ::)
I sell on ebay to, and I know it gets expensive with the listing costs, then paypal costs, but I would never have the brass neck cheek some sellers do by heaping the costs on the postage to claw back what they have paid out! Now if the item was a higher price and postage sensible then I would buy it, its the principle of the matter :P
For sheer devilment I sometimes email sellers and query the postage amount, asking if its a miss-print, and have been offered reductions on postage just for asking that, but I wont buy it!! lol ( hmm must be getting old :o )

lmao i do exactlly the same and i get offered a reduction too or they say "oh i have forgot to alter it" yea yea ripping off so and sos i post mine ebay item at the lowest i can get i recycle alot of my packaging .
Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves!
  • This is how a lot of people keep their costs down as I'm pretty sure you only pay fees on the item cost and not the postage cost. I agree with you though lovebargains. It takes the p*ss when an item is 1p with postage of £35!!
  • Some people take the p, that said I've both over and under estimated postage + packing costs in the past. It's a hard one to call sometimes....

In my new listings I've started stating the weight of the item and then stating that I've also added X pence to cover packaging. I usually only round it up by about 10p but I do at least state it! If I didn't add a little bit extra then it would be pointless me listing some items by the time I've paid fees &/or bus fare to get to the bank to pay in personal cheques (£1.20 each way).

I also used to buy jiffy-bags but not any more. Since we've moved house I've got a large roll of bubblewrap that we didn't use so with a bit of brown paper I'm saving myself a bundle of money.

Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

On the odd occassion I have queried postage, it has mostly turned out to be a mistake & the seller went and revised it afterwards. Course, they could be just saying that to see if they could get away with it, or is that me being too cynical?

The most ridiculous P&P terms I saw was someone selling clothes who said that she would combine P&P if you bought more than one item...but if you only bought one, she'd charge £11! and without any insurance. I couldn't believe it!

I picked one of the items & sent her a question asking if the P&P would really be £11 for this ( a skirt) ...not because I wanted it, I just wanted to see how she justified the postage. Got the reply "well, I suppose I could do it for £4.50"   >:(

you could always wait for them to leave you a positive feedback and then spring a neg on them for the postage! ...that is sneaky but so is adding those charges! they shouldn't write it in the P&P BOx but in the Payment instructions so its clear that actual posting of the item isn't that much but that is how much they are screwing you by! :-/ I keep undercharging! ...How do these people get away with it!! ???
