i am from motherwell and with the m74 and m8 motorways makes both cities easily accessable as i have worked in both ,both places have good and bad points as with everywhere else .i moved down to wales but before i did this i spent a year going back and forth on holidays and weekends to get a feelfor the place first if you visit both places i think you will have a good gut feeling as to which place you feel most comfortable in

Glasgow would be the city for me (West End Glaswegian and proud of it). West coast has the scenery East coast seems to have the fishing villages but not much scenery. Worked in Edinburgh and Rosyth and found them both quite strained and reserved. Glaswegians are more approachable, friendly and likeable. Personal opinion without being biased as I know of a few "Weegies" who would be better on the East coast.

I am gonna spend a week in Edinburgh before I move to assess the city.
Which neighbourhood I should avoid in Edinburgh?

    Avoid: Niddrie / Craigmillar

Don't even venture near that area if you want to get out alive lol. It;s dirt cheap to buy in, but don't be tempted. They are undergoing a regeneration process though, but the chavs will prob have it back in ruins in 5 years or so.

Edinburgh is an amazing city though, and although I am a little biased because I live on the East side, I have spent time in both cities, and all my mum's relatives come from Glasgow. (I can't stand the accent though, sorry)

You would be better off applying for jobs, then deciding where to live based on where you can work.

I certainly don't think you should buy anywhere until you know the 'lie of the land'. Nothing worse than buying somewhere then realising it's not suitable.

Or you could always choose in between the two cities - I hear prices are reasonable in Grangemouth lol...;)

There is an urban myth in the Highlands that Edinburgh is full of very good looking women.
Unfortunatly, from what I've seen of the city, this isn't the case :(

Helensburgh has a nice mix of people - there's probably more English than Scottish ;)
