carers allowance and ebay

Options
Hello can someone help me I receive carers allowance for my son as he receives the middle rate disability allowance. I have got into ebay and sell quite a few things does anyone know whether that is counted as earnings as you are only allowed to earn a small amount each week. The ebay I do is not the same amount each week. I do not earn anything else and my partner is working we do not claim anything else. Hope someone will be able to help me as I do not want to lose my carers allowance.

  • While on Carer's Allowance you must not earn above £82 a week. DWP will not count money you pay out for things like:
    • some National Insurance (NI) contributions
    • income tax
    • half of any money you pay towards a personal or occupational pension
    • paying someone who is not a close relative of you or the disabled person to look after the disabled person while you are at work (up to a certain limit)
    • paying someone who is not a close relative of you or the disabled person to look after your children aged under 16 while you are at work (up to a certain limit)
    • some other expenses
As far as Ebay is concerned where you are selling your own personal possessions these would not be counted as income. However if you were making stuff, or buying stuff and then selling it on Ebay the difference between the cost price and the selling price after your expenses had been deducted would be counted as income.

So it would be as well to keep a record of your sales. So that if the DWP do make contact, you will be able to show how much profit, after deducting all your expenses, you made in any particular week.
