Hotel recommendations for Chicago

Going on a 4-day break to Chicago can any one recommend reasonably priced hotels near Michigan Avenue Central area?

I've stayed at Essex Inn on a couple occasions. Nice clean hotel and usually one of the cheapest. Nice pool too, and not that far from N.Michigan Avenue, is located on S.Michigan Avenue

I've stayed at the Cass Hotel 2 blocks from the Mag. Mile on 3 occasions. Cheap, clean sleeps every time. http://www.casshotel.com/

I'd second jnd's comment about the Cass hotel - very cheap and cheerful and great location - we stayed there for 10 days in May but did take own towels! Have a look on tripavisor.com for comments on this hotel and others.

Hi I stayed in Chicago Hotels for the past year. by far the best, location, standard and price is the amalfi hotel, just of miciagan, new hotel, rooms have everything inc dvd players. Brekfast is served via buffet on each floor, you just pop along in your robe (provided) then take back to your room. loads of little things, like free coctail lounge iopen each evening 7 -9. Hotel has a fitness room but no pool *(only bad point 4 me).
