maintenance backpayments

Hi,
I'm new to these boards, but I need a little advice for my neice. I hope someone can advise me on the best way to help her. Hubby and I would love to help her, but cannot afford it as we already have 2 at uni and a 3rd to follow shortly.

My niece has been offered the chance of a lifetime, to study in America. She has to pay for the first year, and if that goes well she will recieve a full scholarship. The problem is her first year. Her Mother is a single parent, and cannot afford to pay for this. Her father stopped visiting and moved away when she was 2 and ceased payments and total contact a short time later.

She has asked me if it is possble to force her father to contribute, (it's approximately £7500). She recently found him on the net. He has not paid any maintenance for over 15 years. My sister gave up chasing when after 10 yrs or so the CSA told her they could not find him. My niece reckons her Mum is owed 15 years of back maintenance for her and her brother. She wote to him, but has heard nothing.

Any advice, or pointers to where I can find the answers gratefully recieved.

Thanks,
Mini

In short no. If the CSA have come up short over so many years then I don't think its likely they will get anything from him. Therefore i don't think this would be a realistic option.

So a man can hide until his children reach 18, then get a job and still not contribute to his Kids. That's immoral!

Since I now have his name, DoB, NI no, employers name and address and a photo, it fortunate there isn't a name and shame website.

Thank goodness most men are not like that!!!
