Hi,
I need to paint and protect my old Iron gates in the garden. They have started getting rusty and need to paint them. Has anyone got any idea how I would be able to treat the gates so when I paint them they wont get rusty again for some time?
Any idea on products or prices??

Yes. use Hammerite and theres some nice instructions for you to read
maybe some Red Oxide paint beforehand as an undercoat.0 -
You could always get them dipped to remove old paint.
Then get them powder coated.
You'll never need paint them again !

You never said you were on a tight budget. you asked how to protect them to last a long time. :rotfl:
This is your answer...get them powder coated. :rotfl:
I just bought some 6ft gates, they were powder coated. The bloke I got them off paid around £180 to get them painted
Not sure about the stripping...I should think it will be around £25 per gate..maybe.
At least you won't have to paint them again !! :rotfl:

Thanks for infomation, I've got three 6ft gates and £180 would be too expensive. Might be best getting the hammerite paint wire wool them down where needed and paint them myself. Should only cost £40 for the paint and wool. Would be nice to get them powder coated but sadly that would cost too much.0
