the buyer said bank or post office which is fine as we have a good few post offices and banks in our town

there are no travel agents near us though, would mean having to go out of my way and, pay extra fuel and car parking to get the money

i will see if western union have a website and a 'store' locator

I was offered Western Union last year from a US buyer on a very odd book I was selling, on advice from here I accepted and then got the real run around from the buyer. Every day I got a different message, she was too ill to drive to her local WU store, then her car wouldn't start then it was a US holiday (it wasn't) went on for 4 weeks until I finally gave up and went to a SCO to a person in the UK.

Actually I always wonder what I actually sold, I don't 'do' old books I just don't understand them and I don't like the feel of them and the smell so I bung them all up at 99p with loads of photos. This one went for almost £50, I still don't know what was special about it.

i got my money today from western union at the bureau de change counter in thomas cook. it was a little bit out of my way so i had to pay fuel and for car parking (only £1), but it came to less than what the equivalent paypal fees would have been.

i just had to fill in a form with my name, address, phone number and the senders name, city, country and the transaction code which the buyer emailed me beforehand, and then i got given the cash :)

the buyer was lovely, and after i told her i had to go a bit out of my way she offered to send me extra money for fuel/bus/taxi which i declined. she has not once asked when i would send the item or badgered me to send the item before i had the money and she was very pleased when i said i would send the item tomorrow or monday.

It's always good to hear a positive outcome from a query on here! :D

yes it is fine to give people your bank account information for bank transfer payment.

they can use it to setup a fraudulent direct debit.

which you would be covered against by the direct debit guarantee

your full bank details are on all cheques you send, and so is your signature!
