Hi,
I have managed to get locked out of my router.
Its a 3CRWDR101A-75
I had set it up to have a WPA password for security buy when i had to remove the usb remote, it now asks for the password which i dont have!!!
I also cannot access http://192.168.1.1 to get into the settings for the router.
Previously any problems could be solved in here but as its not connecting to it i cannot change anything.
Can anyone please offer me advice on how to solve this problem and get me back online? (I'm posting this at work)

Use the Ethernet cable! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

If you know what your ISP configuration is, i.e. the details held on the router to connect you to the broadband, then you could reset the router. There should be a small switch/button probably on the back or underneath of the router, marked Reset. This will put router back to the factory settings.
You will have to re-enter all your login details and WPA encryption settings.
BEWARE IF YOU DO NOT KNOW YOUR SETTINGS FOR YOUR ISP YOU WILL HAVE TO PHONE THEM.0 -
No need for a reset! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

So unless i am wrong i'll need another suggestion....
Well as you do not have the wireless encryption key saved, you will have to connect the PC to the router using the Ethernet cable to either retrieve the key or set it up again from scratch.

If i have to set it up again from scratch, should i hit the reset button as mentioned above or is there another way.
I can't see where to uninstall the router, just the usb adaptor which i have already reinstalled.
When trying to connect it asks for a key in 40 or 104bits with 5 or 13 ascii or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters.
I dont understand these at all but when i enter attempts for the key, it seems if i enter any 5 digit password, it connects with limited connectivity but cant access the net.
why would this be?0 -

You do not need to reset the router, the only reason that you can't connect is because you do not have the encryption key. The whole point of the encryption key is to prevent unauthorised access to your network. Move the PC to the router and connect using the Ethernet cable. Go to the wireless encryption settings and either retrieve the key or get a new one from here and save it to a notepad file for when you are required to enter it.

Because it's not really connected i.e. the encryption is not allowing data to pass over the wireless link. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

trying it while connected with ethernet and although it connects this way, it won't connect wirelessly.
when i click to repair the connection, it goes as far as renewing ip address but it fails.
really dont know what to do as i thought i would just have to disable the wep encryption and that would be it but its just not connecting wirelessly
dont ask me how but for some reason it started working!!!
i restarted the pc and refreshed the wirless connections and it connected.
thanks for all help offered.0 -

I hope that you have re-enabled the encryption, otherwise your network is not secure. You should be using WPA not WEP anyway. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
