I know it must be difficult to find new material, but this kind of banner headline is sensationalist, misleading and smacks of the spam emails we all hate.
How about using the more accurate ..... "How to find the cheapest fuel in your area" or perhaps, "How to reduce fuel consumption and save money"?
It all rather reminds me of the premium rate number that advertised... "Save 50% On Fuel" ... People called and were told to find someone to car share with and go halves on costs.

To state the obvious, the point in a sensationalist sounding title is for it to be catchy which would make people look, link, read and if needed talk - it's not enough if the content is brilliant or with promotional material if it fetches no attention.
It's like the titles you give for threads - straightfoward titles wouldn't necessarily get me to invite myself to your thread whereas if it talks about the same but under the title with a gossipy tone would in an instant captivate my attention0 -
Which headline are you talking about specifically...
The ones I wrote were
Beat £1.20/litre petrol… save a third.
This is accurate the system does cut costs by a third and many peopl ehave fed back achieving that and more.
And...
Petrol nearing £1.20/litre. Yet you can cut costs by a third, saving £100s. New Guide
This one the other one - again it's accurate.
Directly underneath this it then says...
"Fuel prices are skyrocketing, to help I’ve honed a new four-step system. 1. Simple declutter tricks improve your car’s efficiency by up to 10%. 2. Remember "the harder I press the pedal the more I spend" and you can cut fuel use by 20% without significant journey time increases. 3. By using the web to find the cheapest forecourt you can save a further 5%. 4. Pay the right way to make yet another 5% on your fuel. All details in this fully re-written and re-researched"
If you're talking about the site it says
Cheap Petrol & Diesel: Cut your fuel spend by a third
Find the cheapest petrol station, pay the right way, speedily make your car more efficient and learn the golden driving rule & you'll cut your fuel bill by a...
I fail to see how any of this is misleading... I very deliberately stayed away from any "cut the price of petrol by a third"?

Apologies, I should have said the home page. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/index.php
URGENT MONEY SAVING: Save A Third On Petrol
Naturally I appreciate that the layout of the home page restricts the amount of words one can use, however, the choice of words is IMHO as stated in the opening post. The MSE Dictionary

you're such a cynic :rotfl:

Wrong, Wrong, Wrong.
It's like the story of the little boy who cried wolf, yes he got peoples attention, but his claims were unfounded, so people quickly lost interest in him and because people stopped paying him any attention..... the wolves had a feast.
If the Save A Third On Petrol had been a banner headline elsewhere, I would not have clicked on it, but as Martin usually delivers, I did click on it, only to find out that all was not as it appeared..... So I posted the thread to avoid the wolves having their day.The MSE Dictionary
