Until a few days ago, pages loaded quickly with no messing about. But today, they are taking ages. Coincidently yesterday I saw on BBC news, something about testing download speed and they gave a link for anyone to try (https://www.bbc.co.uk/technology) and then clic on download speed test. After the test, it displayed 2.5Mbps (whatever that means). You are then asked a few details, ie name/postcode/phone number and you are invited to leave an opinion regarding speed. I said that I was satisfied and didn't know what it was like to be any faster. FATE!, then today it's slow. I've re-run the test and it still shows 2.5Mbps. So, any opinions ?

Are you having this with all websites, its probably a maintenance issue at your ISPs and it should be up and running in a couple of hours.
Would not worry too much about it. If it persists, I would advise you to contact your ISP. Who's ur ISP btw?
Hehe .. this reminds how relative this is, back home the affordable solution is only a 28.8kbps modem
A commercial 128kbps/128kbps up/down costs over $800 per month

I am with dare I say it TALKTALK!. I will also say that I'm one of those that have never experienced any problems. That is until now. I expect that after saying that, I'll get my fair share, lol. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Quite often this is a problem with the website you are trying to access. The next time it slows down, go to a large website (like bbc.co.uk) and start navigating to pages you dont visit. If the pages load normally then the problem is with the sites you are trying to access. Typically this is due to so many people doing the same, however this doesn't affect the bbc website so much as they obviously account for this with a high bandwith.
If the bbc is slow then it probably is your ISP performing maitanence.0 -

If plenty of different sites are taking ages to load up, its probably your ISP. Best give them a call to find out if they are performing any maintenance.0 -
I've just done a "tour" of sites I rarely visit, and they loaded quickly. Then I did a couple inc MSE that took longer. I suppose via a process of elimination we are getting there. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

What site is causing you a problem?
If you don't want to say no problem, just a general idea like Youtube or just forums with lots of text.0 -
You can try deleting your cache and cookies. Go into tools, internet options or whatever, and theres delete private data or something. Usually if its getting full it whines and whines and amakes everything slow.
However saying that, at my uni, when it started acting slow I did it and then it took a day or 2 to get back to proper speed.0 -
OK, Paddy so I have an update.
Over the years, I've saved a number of photographic editing suites and lumped them all together under and within an icon on my desktop and called 'em just that, photo suites. Now I have binned them all, save for my Picasa site that I use almost daily. It was Picasa, that was giving me the biggest headache but now, strangely enough it appears to be less slow.
MSE was my second slowest, but when you consider how many hits this site gets at any one time, maybe that speaks for itself.
Another anomaly was as I type, sometimes the letters were way behind in appearing, I'd sort of have to wait for them to catch up.
Lokolo, before I do as you suggest, I will give this a run and see how we progress I think. Were I to do as you suggest, ie delete cache and cookies, how will that effect the machine, does it mean I will have to re-enter my log-in details throughout?
After tomorrow, I will be away for almost three weeks. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Cookies store things like pictures on your computer so if you visit a site regularly then it doesnt have to download the image again and again taking up bandwith. So if you clear them your browsing may slow down for a few days as the cookies download from each site you visit.
You may have to enter the details again. In firefox there is an option to clear private data. There you can select to delete cookies but not passwords. What this means is you will have to enter your user name on sites but when you do the password will enter automatically.
In Internet Explorer go to tools>delete browsing history. Then select them all except passwords and the same will happen.
Hope that helps.
