Spending money for Las Vegas

Hi guys,

Thinking of going to Las Vegas in March 2009 for either 7 or 10 days and was just wondering if anyone who has been can give me an idea on how much spending money me and my girlfriend should think about taking?

Also, can anyone recommend a cheapish hotel around the Strip that is nice to stay in?

Thanks

My work sends me there on a regular basis and i've been on holiday too - actually going next Friday for 11 days, cant wait. Vegas is a great place if you dont have a huge desire to gamble as rooms, food, shows, etc are all subsidised by those losing a lot of money in the casino.

You can spend as much or as little as you like on shows, tours, etc so someone can only really advise you on food and room.

Food is very cheap in vegas and with a lot of competing buffets at the large resorts, you shuold never need to spend more than 40$ per person per day. And that isnt budgeting - if you wish to, you could get it cheaper than that.

With regards to room, there are so many to choose from that it really depends on your budget. Check out Imperial Palace simply because of its location. Nothing better than being able to walk around Vegas at night. This allows you to do that. If you let me know your rough budget, i could give you a better idea but the Imperial is a good place to start when working out a price.

As for shows, i would strongly recommend any of the Cirque Du Sollei. None are really for those on a budget but if you go to the half price ticket booth at 2.30 on any day, you can sometimes get good deals.

If you want any more info, pm me and i'll answer any q's you have.

im going in april next year. planning on taking at a grand. thats should cover moderate gambling, buffet lunches, rollercoasters, beer, clubs, & strippers for a week. its a lads trip, so wont be bothering with shows, fancy restaurants, shopping, treatments, excursions etc, all of which you will have to add to cost of onto your budget if you take the missus.

Me and my hubbie went several years ago, we have been twice and took about £1,000 between us, but that was before the pound was as good as it now.
You will almost get £2,000 nowadays in comparison to what we did.

Should go a long way. We stayed at Ballys and Harrahs and thought they were reasonable at the time with a good location for going out at night etc.
There are plenty of free things to do, each hotel has something going on for free on the strip, and Circus Circus is worth visiting for the free circus acts.

We did spend far too much on slot machines, but other than that we had a great time, and ate well.
We had breakfast out, lunch and dinner too.

    ENJOY xx:beer:

You are better off in Down Town Vegas then if you want to see Strippers, there were plenty of them hanging round the doorways when we went, not that I went in those places of course.

Money is imposible to answer, we have watched people drop $1,000 in a few hands of Blackjack and if you have a car the shopping off strip is a big attraction as well.
Cheap room wise, check out Tropicana. location is good on the corner with MGM, NYNY and Excalibur but its very cheap, we drove up from Tucson last year for a few nights and got a great deal there in the garden rooms. We have stayed all over vegas and in far better rooms but for the price I would go back here. By comparison we thought IP was dated. If you do look at tropicana dont be sweet talked into upgrading to a tower room, they will try and tell you the garder rooms are a long walk which is rubbish and to get to the rear tower you have to walk almost all the way to the back then get the lift.

  • I agree, hard to guess the spending money. I was there after travelling round the world for a bit and didn't have a huge amount to spend, maybe only a couple of hundred dollars. Was lucky (or skillful) the first night at blackjack and bumped it up a few hunderd more, but obviously blew it over the week I was there!

I stayed in the Tropicana. Was fine, not the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in, but was good enough to sleep in and then we just walked around the strip all day. Lots to see and do.

Oh and go to the Grand Canyon. Amazing.

Sounds like a grand should cover the spending money then. We're not gonna be doing much gambling, just the odd flutter.

Speaking of gambling, is there a minimum bet on the tables?

We stayed in the Imperial Palace several years ago, it's ideally situated on the strip and very reasonable.
