Best Method To Remove Plaster From External Walls

Could anybody advise as to what the best method is to remove plaster from an external wall.

Is it using a drill or do it by hand using a bolster?

Many thanks

I think you mean render rather than plaster.

Lump hammer and bolster chisel are probably the easiest way. Hopefully if you get "under" the render you will be able to chisel off it large(ish) lumps.

Why are you taking the render off?

    Thanks for the reply.

If that what its called then yes rendering. (Not very clued up on DIY by the way)

Reason for taking the render off is that some parts of the wall looks a mess. Thinking about it i wonder as the paint is flaking off and i can see the underneath that all it needs is a repaint.

I havent gone to the top of the wall to see what it's like up there but from the ground it looks black like theres something growing and hence why i wanted to render

Might be worth getting a plasterer who does rendering round to have a look, he would be able to tell you if the render is shot or if it just needs a repaint. Black stuff sounds like damp of some kind, although it could just be dirt and grime. If it is damp then removing the render would probably be necessary to find the cause.

    Thanks for that adaze.

Stripped a small patch of paint off the wall and the render looks fine, will carry on doing the same for the whole wall and see what it's like, but hopefull all that's required is a repaint and maybe a small amount of rendering work.

Looks like youve saved me some hours of hard labour and money.:j

    Thanks again.
