Can they just take a car in the middle of night?

Hi
My boyfriend went br in april, he had a car on finance which we knew would be taken.

However he has woken up today and the car has vanished, this is the first time he has stayed at his in a few days.

He had a lot of his work equipment in there, is there anything we can do???

Did they put any paperwork through the door? If not phone the police, as far as you are concerned it has been stolen.

He should have been given the opportunity to remove his personal posessions from the car.

  • If it is the company that have taken it? (They do seem very cloak and dagger, my oh lives in an apartment block with security gates and they have got in before when he hasn't been there) is there anything the police can do?

Will we be able to get the equipment back? thats our main concern, there was a lot of stuff in there and he won't be able to work today...
  • As there is no reason they should have the keys then the only way they could have taken it is by lifting or dragging it onto the back of a recvery van as the couldnt tow it safely with the steering lock on unless the front wheels where dead staight when you left it so unless they have been daft and egnored the safty implication of doing it that way i think you would have heard it beeing dragged or lifted as onto the truck, (and probebly be able to see evidence of this) or at least someone would, so i would say it sounds as if it has been nicked
Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all …………. :(

A neighbour up the road had her car towed away at about 6am a few months back , because she had missed 3 months payments.

Did your neighbour have any warning, or paperwork left?

Or was it completely out the blue?
  • Quick Update

It was the finance company that have took the car - no paperwork left whatsoever, black horse, has anyone else had dealings with these?

My OH has managed to contact the company and they have taken it to Birmingham (we live in Wolverhampton), he has now (without a car) got to travel over there tomorrow to pick up his equipment

Are they allowed to do this??

Is there anyway we can complain?

as far as I am aware , if it is a personal loan and he gone bankrupt then there is a clause in the loan agreement that allows them to terminate the agreement and reclaim the car. If he has avoided/ignored contact from them then they will use a recovery company to recall the car and I'm sure they are able to enter the premises if the security let them in (or another tenant)

has he had NO letters from them regarding the debt ?
