I've just done a system scan to see what RAM I have so I can increase it. It says that I have 4 ports. 2 with 256 in and 2 available. I can then purchase 2 x 1GB which will give my computer 2.5GB of RAM. Is this fine to do???

Nope, not exactly-- Best not to mix different size ram sticks and futher more there will be a max capacity for each slot and also may not be able to use all four slots together!! if thats clear, check with the motherboard user guide first. You prob. be ok using just the 2x1Gb though but go to crucial or kingston brands.0
