in Credit cards
Hi all, I'm off to France, Germany and Belguim soon with my Abbey Zero credit card. I understandd that I will be able to withdraw cash abroad without any charge from Abbey, but certain banks abroad where the ATM is may make a charge of there own!
Does anyone know which banks ATM's are free in the above countries?? especially Germany? so I don't incurr charged with them.
Thanks Bob:beer:

You do realise that you'll be paying 25.9% APR interest on your withdrawals from the moment you withdraw the money and until you completely clear the entire balance on the card...including any purchases also placed on it?0

I am almost certain you will be charged if you withdraw cash on your CC. I think you are charged interest from the day you withdrawthe cash.
See the following comment from another thread.
"I know it looks good because there is no fee for foreign currency transactions, but in reality you are best NOT to use it for cash withdrawals. A Nationwide Flexaccount with a Debit Card is much better for making foreign currency cash withdrawals."Member #7 SKI-ers Club

The only way to withdraw cash from ATMs free abroad is to use Nationwide's FlexAccount card, AFAIK.0

I have studied the Abbey Zero website http://www.abbey.co.uk/csgs/Satellite?cid=1157698106817&pagename=Abbey%2FGSProducto%2FGS_InfProducto and they say there is NO CHARGE to withdraw cash abroad using ATM's. Being rather confused I telephoned Abbey and the guy I spoke to confirmed with his superviser that Abbey Zero do not charge for ATM withdrawals abroad!
Well I have noted this and we shall see!

Yes there is no commission charge that most other providers have, but you will pay interest at the Cash Withdrawal rate from the date of the transaction. This is not really very adviseable, hence the suggestion that the best method to make foreign currency cash withdrawals is with the Nationwide Flexaccount.0 -
You are all right about this one!
I've just phoned Abbey again, it seems you have to ask them 'specific' questions on what you are charged because they won't volunteer the information, even though they knew what I was getting at in simple laymans terms!!
I wont be withdrawing cash on this card thats for sure!

If you use the Abbey card, you will pay an annual 25.9% on the balance until it is cleared; the exact amount you pay will depend on your statement and payment dates. But if you had an idea how much you might spend, you could fund the card before you go and thus pay no interest at all.
If you use another credit card you will pay 2.5% or 3% of the amount you withdraw, PLUS 2.75% (or more (except Nationwide & Post Office 0%)) in foreign exchange loading. That would easily exceed any interest on the Abbey card.
If you use a debit card (other than Nationwide) you will still pay the 2.75% foreign exchange loading PLUS an indeterminate amount according to which bank you use. But still more than any interest on the Abbey card.0 -
How does it work out for purchases?.....0
