any jsa cont experts out there?

Hi all

Anybody answer the following?

I was made redundant last October and went onto JSA Cont as had worked full time for over 15 years. I didn't find a job and because I was pregnant went onto maternity allowance after 3 months in Jan this year. This lasts until October this year. I know that if I hadn't been pregnant and hadn't found a job that the JSAC would have lasted 6 months then run out (hubbie works full time) so when my maternity allowance runs out in October will I be eligible to receive any more JSAC ie another 3 months worth to make it up to the 6 months. Thats obviously if I don't find a job in the mean time!

Also, do the job centre take into account child care 'issues' when you are looking for work ie I would have to find a childminder/nursery very nearby to cover the hours as I don't have a car (hubbie starts work too early to be able to take the baby and he has the car). I just know some of the advisors didn't even seem to appreciate the fact I was pregnant before so am concerned!

thanks for any help

I know that when i was on Job seekers with children, they were accommodating to the fact I could only look for work in certain hours due to school drop off and pick ups.
They should be flexible to the fact you need to be local to nursery.
As for the other question, im afraid I have no idea.

Have a look at this link

JSA is normally payable if you are actively seeking work, available for work and wiling to work. Generally the expectation is that the work sought must be for a 40 hour week.

The Contribution Based JSA is payable if you satisfy the Labour Market (ie looking for Work) conditions and the NI Contribution conditions.

Claims made between 1 Jan 2008 and 31 December 2008 use the tax years 2006/07 and 2005/06 to calculate your NI contributions.

[FONT=EEKKP N+ Helvetica Neue,Helvetica Neue][FONT=EEKKP N+ Helvetica Neue,Helvetica Neue]You can get contribution-based Jobseeker’s Allowance if you have paid enough National Insurance contributions. Any other benefits you have been getting before may affect the date your Jobseeker’s Allowance claim begins. You should ask an adviser to explain how this type of Jobseeker’s Allowance works.

    Can I get Jobseeker’s Allowance?

    [FONT=EEKKP N+ Helvetica Neue,Helvetica Neue][FONT=EEKKP N+ Helvetica Neue,Helvetica Neue]To get Jobseeker’s Allowance you must:
    • be able to work for at least 40 hours a week
    • be looking for work
    • have paid enough National Insurance on your income

You are allowed to restrict the amount of hours you can work to 16 and above if you have childcare resposibilities as long as the type of work and hours you want are available. You would still need to be available for work and actively seeking work if you claim JSA.

    Hope this helps.
