BA Credit Card or Air Miles Travel Co?

I have a query regarding air miles and I'm new to this and as yet can't seem to understand how it all works.
My husbands wants to get the British Airways American Express Card but that seems to limit us to only flying with BA and certain destinations. Now I know its a good rate 1 mile for every £1 spent but surely we are better off with Air Miles Travel Co (Who use Lloyds Tsb Credit Card) as we can choose from different air lines and different airports (we mostly use East Midland) as we go to Europe more often than anywhere else.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

It is unwise to pay too much but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, all you lose is a little money... that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot...it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better (John Ruskin - 19 ctry author, art critic & social reformer)
