Changing Abbey cashback card to Abbey Zero

I currently have the Abbey 5% cashback on S/market shopping card which runs out at the end of July, and was hoping to change it for the Abbey Zero card when the supermarket offer finishes.
Has anyone here managed to do this or does anyone know, if I threaten to leave will they offer me the card? (Or even how long after leaving I could apply for the card?)
I'm interested in the using abroad element (which I understand I could also get by opening a Nationwide account but I currently have current accounts at 4 different banks) but I also have an Ulster bank card whose 0% balance transfer rate ends on the 13th July so the card would be more useful for that.
Thanks!

My abbey Credit card was opened before X'mas with 5% supermarket shopping. Stopped using it since March due to the end of the cash back. Last month received a letter telling me that I can use my card overseas from June to end of August without charge. So I guess you can ask them if you can get this benefit as well.0

Thanks for the reply John. Did they also offer you the free 6 months balance transfer though?0

I am afraid not. Have 3 cards with transfer balance already. Not really want the 4th yet anyway.0 -
If you want the Zero card you have to apply for it all over again as you cant 'upgrade' to it. I already had the Abbey card so applied (and got) a Zero as well. Lower credit limit though and they only transferred over some of the balance from the Barclaycard I nominated.
As above, existing Abbey card holders do get free use abroad for a short period of time but no interest free period or no fee balance transfer.0 -
Didn't they have an issue with you having 2 cards with the same provider then? I would've thought that'd be a reason for refusal?0

Seemingly not
I dont have the physical card yet but the pin number is here and the card details and balance transfer are showing on my online banking so its all looking good.
I was planning to shut down the (ex) Cashback one anyway and hadnt used it since March so maybe that helped.
I already have a Nationwide Debit & Visa for spending overseas so mainly wanted it for the no-fee balance transfer but dont know why they didnt pay off the full amount as its well within the credit limit. I cant be bothered dealing with their call centre to find out though...0 -
So let me get this straight, once the 5% supermarket offer runs out in July, the only replacement is the free-overseas-use offer (this letter was waiting for me when I got back from holiday!)? When Abbey launched the card last year I read they were wanting to be "innovative" and have a series of 5% themed offers - I wouldn't have bothered applying if it was only going to be for 3 months. I see the 5% supermarket card has disappeared from the Abbey website.0
