Electric only flat - electric or mixer shower??

My girlfriend and I have just bought our first place, which is electric only (immersion heater). We are looking to put in a shower, but have read pros and cons for both electric and mixer showers.
It is said that mixer showers are more economical than electric, but is this still the case if we only have an immersion heater? I know an electric is independant of the water system and so gives continuous hot water, but is the flow rate much lower than a mixer. Would this be alleviated if we installed a pump to feed the electric shower?
My worry with a mixer shower is running out of hot water, say for example, if we have friends staying over. We have a decent sized tank, but would a mixer shower pull through a lot of the hot water?
Any advice / past experience would be great.
Following on from this, we're are veering towards an electric shower due to the independance from the immersion heater. Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with Triton units? We are looking at the T100xr
