Hi
I've had a couple of Blue Screen of Death incidents over the past couple of weeks - funnily enough at the same time on a Tuesday afternoon . . . .
The PC has restarted okay but I'm concerned and not sure what the best thing to do is. Can anybody advise, or point me in the right direction of some basic troubleshooting instructions?
many thanks
I have Windows XP and seem to have installed SP3 okay . . .

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."

Ok .. what do you do on Tuesday afternoons? :P
Pun aside, are there any specific programs you run or are scheduled to run on Tuesdays specifically?0 -

No, I haven't set anything up to update or run on a Tuesday (as far as I am aware) but it seems weird that it has happened at the same time. Is there a way I can check what is causing the problem?"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. I doubt its hardware related, if it was .. it would be very sporadic and random and would not occur on the same day same time again.
This is probably a software related issue that has to do with any programs you access or use on a Tuesday. What programs are resident in your tray?0 -

I'm not at home at the moment, but I'll check when I get back.
Thanks"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0 -
In my tray, I have
DSL Modem
On-Access Virus Scan (McAfee)
Bluetooth (not connected)
Hewlett Packard Digital Imaging Monitor
Nokia PC suite
Yahoo Instant Messenger
Updates are ready shieldy thing (if there are any. I turned off automatic updates after it kept causing the PC to crash)
Windows Messenger (have never connected to this or signed in)
Adobe Photo Downloader
Safely Remove Hardware icon
Quicktime
Another mobile icon, telling me that no device is connected. Recently, a connection wizard for a sony ericsson mobile phone has appeared on start up - I have usually just cancelled it. I did try to uninstall it, but it hung forever telling me that windows needed to configure it. I was wondering if I needed to go through the wizard to connect it before I could uninstall it properly."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. As you have had problems with updates in the past that is likely the problem.
If this happens after it has switched on leave it on over night. But before you leave it alone right click on all the tray icons you can(except anti-virus and the internet connection) and exit or close them.
Blue screen is an XP and older problem isnt it?
Anyway remove Windows messenger from the startup menu and the Erricson mobile wizzard. You dont have to uninstall them, just stop them from launching. This is just general maintanence though.
I guess as this only happens on tuesdays we shall have to wait till then for a result.

Thank you - how do I remove them from the start up menu?"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it.
