It's fairly easy, but it depends how good/fancy you want the banner to be. You can have a banner with animated graphics using Flash or you can just have a static banner created using some sort of graphics package. It really depoends on how simple or fancy you want the banner to be. Windows comes with PAINT which is probably the simplest of simplest graphic tools but if you want something a bit more professional you need to get a better graphics package. I use something called Xara. Alternatively for a few dollars tyou can outsource to an expert using a site like scriptlance or elance.

I understand that the GIMP is pretty good for creating/editing graphics:

Versions are available for X-Windows and MS Windows.

I have Flash, so i could possibly do it in Flash, but does anyone have a very simple to follow step by step guide of where to start as have very little spare time (as probably most of you guys):(((
The Banner must be 468 x 60 pixels in size ...
    Many thanks

I don't know anything about Flash myself, but w3schools.com, which is a great site for learning HTML & CSS basics has a Flash tutorial:

There are a few links on this page that might help too:

If you want an advertising banner I would avoid using Flash

Using Flash will stop lots of people seeing it, or moving right on to somewhere else that is easier on the eyes

This is one reason the likes of Tesco, Google etc do not do it, it may appeal to you but it appalls and repels many, as does flashing text, orange text on black, music backgrounds, pop ups etc

Remember you are designing for customers to read it, not turn them off and go elsewhere
