Are you in touch with the person you bought the house from? a simple call to ask them, or if not try the estate agents to ask vendor or landlord.Bless Martin's Little Cotton Socks. I thank him for giving us MSE. Look what its grown into!

I recently moved and decided that I might as well stay with Powergen (my provider in the old house) until all the energy companies finish their price hikes!
Powergen have initiated the switch, but it takes about 6 weeks to complete. The old supplier may or may not contact your friend and ask them to pay for the gas/electricity they have used since moving in.
The current supplier will probably also write to your friend to let them know that they are the supplier.0 -

If you do not tell the supplyer that you are moving in they will try and bill the old customer then when they find them and the old owner says that you moved in they will send you the bill.....Filiss0
