My friends husband had an accident at work on 14th dec 07
He was off work on full pay for 6 weeks
Went onto sat sick pay after this and still is now
I have looked into her entitlments and see she can recieve more in tax credit and working tax credit and some council tax as well
we are aware she can get free school meals and NHS exemption
We were wondering when they are allowed help with the mortgage as we know it is 9 months but is this from the date of accident or sick pay
Any advice will be welcome

Hi
Tax Credits should be updated whenever their situation changes, make sure they check their latest award notice and make sure they have correctly notified them of less income.
Also SSP is only paid for 6 mths so he will need to put in a claim for Incapacity Benefit before this is due to run out.
You can only receive help with your mortgage if you are on IS, JSa (IB) or Pension Credit and this would only be after 39 weeks.
Have they not got thier own mortgage protection?

I know his company is employing someone to cover his job as this needs to be done and he understands this.
His wife seems to think after a certain time the company can lay him off, is this right?
I looked on entitled to with her yesterday and it seems tax credit will make up the money to £12,000 a year, (this is his sick pay about £75 before tax and hers £71 a week)
so I dont think they will get anything of the job centre
Also the accident happened at work, the company have admitted liability and the case has gone to a solicitor
He is on several different pain killers for his back and migraines and has been waiting for an MRI scan for a couple of months now
So I am unsure if and when he is able to claim anything whilst on sick pay
And if you can only recieve mortgage help when claiming does this mean they have to wait until he can claim JSA or incapacity benefit
and can this only be claimed after his sick pay is coming to an end0
