BS6700 recommends 55 degrees (how sad am I) but most people like it around 60.
  • The reason is that Legionella is killed at 55 deg, but I like 65 deg - but I haven't got kids around and the higher temp gives my mixer shower a bit more ommph.

about 60 and scale can be a problem. Removed a 30 year old cylinder last week that was 50% full with scale. My back is still hurting! Its was part of a gravity feed hot water cylinder so water temperature was normally above 65 degress.

Can you recommend anything to avoid build up of scale? Have i seen some crystals or something that you drop into the cylinder header tank?
