Well, I think I am finally coming round to the idea of getting an ipod after realising I was the only person in the gym last night without one! So I have some questions which I hope you lovely people will answer for me.
I'm thinking about getting the ipod Nano. Don't have loads and loads of music, so probably go for the cheaper one.
I currently use windows media player for my music but I don't think i can use that with the ipod, so does that mean I have to move all my music onto itunes and how long is that likely to take and is it straightforward?
As I download my music from sites other than itunes, is it straightforward to get them onto the itunes software?
I do visit the gym and am quite happy to put the ipod in the little area on the treadmill / bike etc., but where do I put it when I do the weight machines? Some of my gym clothes don't have pockets. I've looked at the armbands but they seem a bit "over the top" - a clip for my clothing might be a better idea. Any suggestions?
I have a mobile phone with an mp3 player and I have tried using that when I am out on my bike with the headphones provided but I find the earphones fall out of my ears, and I seem to get in a muddle with the wires. Is an Ipod going to be better for me? It's the fiddliness and messing about that has put me off up to now.

You can use media player, however i would highly reccommend that you change to itunes and use that as your main 'music hub'
An iPod is very easy to use, i got my mum one and shes loving it, we even got her a little music dock so she can listen to it when shes at home doing work.
As said before, you just drag and drop your music into itunes to add it. Getting onto your ipod is as simple as connecting the ipod and it does the rest.
I cant say much about falling out of ears i dont really use the headphones as i usually leave it connected to the dock which has speakers but you can allways change the headphones.0 -
Thanks for that. If I get one, I'm now thinking about upgrading my home audio system to include something with an ipod dock. :-)0

Just plug in one of these:

I just bought an iPod-dock radio alarm clock for my bedroom from Tesco.. 20 quid!! It even has remote control. Amazing0 -
Probably cheaper getting a better set of head phones for your Mobile...
What mobile do you have? there may be specific headphones for your make, though any Headphone may work..Laters

What format is your music in? If it is WMA, iTunes will have to convert them to AAC in order to play them on the iPod. As you're converting from one lossy format to another, there will be some loss in quality.
Also, iTunes can only convert unprotected WMA files, so if you purchased WMA files from somewhere, it is likely iTunes will be unable to convert them for use on your iPod.
As for earphones, the ones that come with the iPod are pretty awful. They sound bad and don't fit in many people's ears. I would budget for spending around £30 for some decent earphones (HMV sell very good Sennheisers for around that price).0 -

Thanks,
I think I'll have a look at itunes and see what I can do about converting what I have before I commit to the ipod.
Thanks for the advice on the earphones. Bring back those great big earphones from the eighties, that's what I say.0 -
If its just for use in the gym why not consider a shuffle. ok it doesnt have a screen and you cant navigate thru your music easily, but its very small and light, comes with its own integrated clip, battery life is excellent and is about a third of the price of a nano. The capacity doesnt match the nano either but how long are you going to be spending in the gym a day? you can change the music whenever you like. Have to agree about the headphones too, apple ones are rubbish. i use creative ones that push into the ears.0
