Complaints procedure and Ombudsman

I have an outstanding complaint with a bank that was finally passed onto their customer service/complaints department a couple of weeks ago, and I haven't heard anything since. What's the timescale before you can instigate a complaint with the FOS and is it worth mentioning this to the bank to chivvy them up?

From memory, it has to be acknowledged within a week, with a final response in 8 weeks.
It might be worth chasing up just to check it's being dealt with. I don't think FOS would do anything yet.0
