If your in an art college youll pick of mac copies of software VERY easily. But no PC software.
Plus if she is a Mac user she will have it already, if she went to a pc she would have to buy it costing more money.
Oh and for all the software I use it would cost me over 2k easily.Green and White Barmy Army!0 -

Sorry, was being sarcastic thereBigBouncyBall wrote: »????
I meant if the OP is already a mac user into design then they probably have applications like Photoshop (Adobe CS3) or Quark or others which cost hundreds. You'd have to rebuy windows versions of that software which you can add on to the price of a £270 windows laptop.
Also if you're going to do design at college i'd wanting to be working on something designed with 'creatives' in mind - a £270 laptop for granny to check her email on isn't going to do that is it.If your in an art college youll pick of mac copies of software VERY easily. But no PC software.

Sorry, the op still hasn't answered the 'if you're currently a mac user, what's wrong with the one you've currently got?' So they're either spending frivulously and on credit, or more likely have once kinda used a mac and think it's cool. The price they save getting a normal desktop PC will more than cover their software costs compared to a mac.0 -

Will it? Why do you say that?
You can buy a macbook with a 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD and SuperDrive DVD burner for £599.
Find me a laptop with the same specs and a cheaper price.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
quickly looking i can find this:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/134721 for £579 which is about the same spec.
So please stop all of this "macs are expensive" nonsense. If you look down the complete line of Apple mac laptops and desktops and find the equivalent 'PC/Windows' machine there is very little price difference indeed the Macs are often cheaper (cf. Mac Pro vs Similar high end workstation) - plus you get the mac OS X operating system which is worth it's weight in gold.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I have a child about to go to 6th form college - apparently a laptop is "essential"
Not in June, it isn't! Possibly not in September either....
OP, if you are a regular Mac user then you already have access to one. Be honest, is it your Mac or the family Mac? If it's the family Mac and you cannot take it with you then I can understand you needing a computer in one format or another to go to uni with. What I can't understand is needing one now, before you've even got your results back. Take a step back and take a long hard look at your situation.
From what you've said, you earn enough to get one before September anyway. You don't have credit facilities, you haven't asked family if they can help, you have been turned down for credit already and are contemplating trashing your credit history before you start. This isn't looking very good for you.
If you can come up with a good set of reasons why you need your computer a] now, b] to be a notebook/laptop and c] why you cannot use your own money instead of someone else's then I'm sure that everyone will be only too happy to help you.
I hope you can understand why some people are a little confused and perhaps not as forthcoming with solutions to your perceived problem as you might wish.If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0 -
