    Hello flaura

For that kinda money you won't go too far wrong with an Astra or a Focus - both fairly economical, comfy, plenty of parts about and plenty of competition amongst sellers.

For that money my vote goes to the Skoda Octavia estate or hatchback.
You should get a 5 year old with 80,000-100,000 miles on the clock for that money.
If your doing mostly town driving and short trips petrol thought the diesels are good and sought after (so high miles or more expensive).

A friend of mine bought a Toyota Avensis over the weekend and paid only £2k for it. On an X Plate only 70K on the clock and comes with all extras including a built in sat nav system & even full service history. His was a 4 door saloon version but the back seats do come down so it kind of does the same job as a hatchback, but i'm sure you can find a hatchback or an estate version too. Don't think you can go too far wrong with a Japanese car (i know i haven;t and i've driven the same honda for the last 6 years)

I'd never buy brand new think it's a waste of money - I just mean new to me and newish - 5years old or less maybe .....

My car I have is a 2001 on an X plate - so i'm looking for something newer than that - i've tried autotrader but only came up with a million different ford KA none of which have a big enough boot for a pushchair

Doesn't have to be an estate - just easy to get two kids in and enough space for the buggy.

I drive 25 miles to work daily on major A roads and supermarkets are a fair distance away 11ish miles - and walk if i can do so for bits and peices from the local shops.. so probably semi urban driving...

thanks for everything so far - can anyone else make any suggestions at what car i should be looking at?

Something I did a few years ago now.

    Saw advert in local rag.

    Went to see car,liked it.

Agreed with seller that if he took it to the garage of my choice and had it fully serviced, I'd pay half the cost of the service and give him the asking price, as long as he paid for any repairs which needed doing.

Outcome; He paid for one small repair, approx £90. I paid half the full service charge I.R.O. £60 as far as I can remember. This was much cheaper than an RAC or AA Inspection.

Both of us were happy, and it was one of the best cars I've ever had.

    Whatever you decide, good luck.
