Private rented flat - Very high electricity charges
My sister lives in a private rented flat. She has electric storage heaters, as part of the fixtures and fittings, but does not use them at all. Consequently, because all the electricity that she does use, for heating, cooking etc is charged at a very expensive rate, she pays more for heating etc a one bed flat (one person), than I do for both gas and electric in a two bed-flat a(2 people). How can she get put on the 'basic' tariff. She cannot, of course, remove the heaters because she doesn't own them. She is a pensioner and is on benefit.

She just asks the company to place her on a 'normal' tariff.
They can't prevent that, some try to say you will have to pay for a new meter, others don't. Simply say she will not pay if they try that game and threaten to switch supplier.
I have Economy 7 meters but am not on that tariff; they add readings from both meters together - e.g. E7 meter reads 200kWh, main meter reads 1,000kWh; I pay for 1,200kWh at 'normal' rates.
Why doesn't she use the storage heaters?0
