Integrated washer

Dear all
Hope you can help. The integrated washer dryer in recently purchased flat blew up yesterday. By "blew up", I mean that after drying sheets (had been on about 45 mins) it made a bang, tripped the circuit and smoke started coming out of it. I haven't tried to use it since (obviously).
With this in mind, I have 3 questions for someone who might know about these things-
1) Is the washer function still likely to work? (I think I know the answer to this...!)
2) If not, is this likely to be repairable? (I think I know the answer to this one too!)
3) Then if not, does anyone have any suggestions for where to buy a cheap integrated washer (doesn't have to be washer/ dryer)?
4) Also, does it need a specialist electrician to wire it in or could a diy-handy friend do it?
Sorry for the (probably) dumb questions but have never had to deal with an integrated appliance before.
Any help appreciated.

...can I buy a free standing machine and just put it in the space? Would there be any issues with size and/ or the plumbing?

how old is it? any warranty?
if not, then you may be able to swap for a freestanding one, the fittings will be the same, but you may have fun cutting plinths etc. if just one long peice has been used.
I'm sure someone will have an idea whats gone on this soon, but if you list the make and model it might help someone.0 -
Thanks for your reply...
It is quite old. I assume it had been there since the flat was converted (7 years ago). It is a Baumatic....
