Purchase Protection Insurance

Having recently used my new MBNA credit card to buy my son a bike, there was not even time to put it onto our home insurance before the bike was stolen!! Then I remembered the 100 day Purchase Protection you are given for goods up to £1,000. I immediately telephoned for a claim for which I duly completed in the time allowed.
The claim form required every piece of information, including original police reports etc.
I received a response almost by return of post informing me that the claim had not been approved because the bike was not for me personally!!! Incredible! How often do people use their card to buy items for family members, obviously without realising that this ridiculous loophole exists to prevent paying out on any claims made. Has anyone else had such an experience and if so is there a solution?
