Home line problems

My BT phone line seems to have developed a fault today.
The internet started to drop connection and also the phone line going dead (found this out whilst on hold to my ISP).
I called 151 and explained to BT but they could find no fault on the line. Did not request an engineer yet.
I have so far removed the face from the main BT socket and been using the 'test' socket hidden behind. There has been no problems for the last 2 hours using this.
Our other extensions (3 others in differnt rooms) all seem to have the intermitten fault.
Our home is nearly 3 years old, so wiring is new. Not had any problems before.
Any idea's how to help me ? BT want to charge £116 for a call out and £99 per socket that work is done to !
Thanks

If its an internet issue more than the telephony issue. Then raise a fault code of 'Drop In Connection' with your ISP & they'll investigate their end.
A good sign is if BT's fault checks they run come back with saying no fault found then they'll charge for the call out.0 -
Don't thinks its an internet issue, more something to do with the internal BT extension sockets in my home.
My wireless router is working fine now as its plugged into the main BT test socket behind the face plate. But all other sockets in my home won't allow my land line to work, theres no dial tone.Never buy a stupid dwarf -

BT will only do free work 'up to' and including the master socket. If that works fine for voice & internet (which is does from what you're saying) then they're doing there job in a sense.
So any work on extensions would be billed at their call out charges plus labour costs unfortunately0 -
Thanks, yes I know all this. I'm looking for any idea's that may be causing the problem i'm having.Never buy a stupid dwarf -

If it works fine when pluged into the hidden socket. (all extensions disconnected)
DO NOT GET BT OUT
It will cost you a fortune as the fault is with your lines/equipment.
Start by disconecting all phones/devices on every outlet.
Plug one known working phone into a socket and test it with a new ADSL filter attached.
Then do the same with every other extension.
If that all works OK, repeat with another Phone/equipment untill the fault shows again, then you will know it is that phone/device at fault, still test every other one you have left.
Equipment could be a FAX machine etc.0 -
Equipment could be a FAX machine etc.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
