buyer dispute on ebay

Hi this is my first thread so please be kind!
Have been an MSE for a couple of months now - best thing I did but it's got me in a bit of a pickle!
I've started to sell on e-bay and sold a mamas and papas buggy a couple of weeks ago. As a newcomer I listed the p&p as £30 after looking at a few quotes on courier sites and adding a bit for packaging. However after selling and finally finding a box that fit the quotes were now well over £30. I then found that the PO could send it for just under £15. I then got a complaint off the buyer about the cost of p&p and saying the covers were dirty and she'd had to wash them! I offered partial refund but she's now made a complaint to Paypal saying that the item wasn't as described. My argument is that I'm not willing to take the buggy back because she's taken the covers off to wash and so I won't be able to re-sell. Will Paypal back me or buyer?

Are the covers are ruined from being washed??
  • she says they're in better condition - but she would say that! I only used to sponge wash them because I don't think you could take them off

Why did she wash the item if she wasn't going to keep it?

How much did you offer her as a partial refund? Id' be inclined to have offered the £15 difference in the postage.

Although you can never tell who Paypal is going to back in these cases, if the buyer wins they will have to return the item to you by trackable means and at their cost.

A paypal dispute could go either way. I recently lost a dispute on a brand new item of clothing (I hate selling clothes) where buyer took off the tags, wore the item and then washed it , tore it and returned it.

However if she loses the dispute she does have to return the pushchair to you fully tracked.

  • have agreed to refund £15 p&p just to end dispute but when I try to press the edit on paypal so that I only refund this amount and not the full amount it won't work! Have e-mailed paypal a few days ago but no reply! Help!

Be as honest as you have been in this post. You have nothing to hide and there has been no intention to deceive (assuming you have been honest here!!).

Did you describe it as used or brand new when you listed it?
