CPH for a garden?
Okay ..an odd question..
Has anyone ever registered their garden with a CPH number so they could keep a pig/goat etc.?
Anyone ever kept a pig in their garden? (I wanted to get weaners and then fatten them up) What sort of space would they require?
I doubt my husband would ever let me, but i've been reading the John Seymour self-sufficency book and it is very addictive! We've got the chickens, growing the veg,...I fancy learning about bees too...like I said addictive stuff!

No but I wanted to do it. Then I realised just how much space they really needed and you should have two so they can have company.
Seriously nice bookI read it 7 years ago and its changed my life.
btw you do learn its not very realisticbut nice (the book)

Hi, there! DH and I have an ambition to have a smallholding when the children leave home. We already have chooks, fruit and veg.
We went on a one-day pig-rearing course last month - really useful, but not cheapIt was our Christmas present to each other :T It was well worth doing as it gave us lots of ideas, and it's not as difficult as it sounds
I think John Seymour gives an idea of space required.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Probably an idea to read up on it here :

I would imagine that you may need a CPH for animal movement records to be kept up-to-date and if you were wanting to claim any subsidies (not sure if this applies for a single animal).
Also Defra may want to carry out animal inspections on your holding as you would be registered on their database because your animal would need to have an eartag. That's Numberwang!0 -
Not an odd request.
You do need a CPH - RPA wont worry that its your garden. Once you have animals & CPH you need to contact your local Animal Health (Ex SVS MAFF) and local trading standards department & let them know. If you intend to take the pig for walks you need a special licence from animal health0
