Bad dealer advice

Hi all,

I was purchasing a vehicle through a dealership of one of the so-called prestige brands.

I paid a deposit of £500 and the deal was verbally agreed. I got a decent discount and the car would be ready for the end of the month (june), so they could get in the sale towards their quarterly target. Plus I got £1000 towards my finance deposit.

Next I get a call, they can't get my order in for the end of the month, so apparently I can't get the £1000 towards my deposit because it will be next 1/4. I said this wasn't an option. Next I recieve a call saying I can have a car thats already built, but has extra options I don't want, but would have to pay full price for!

So, I have 2 options which aren't very fair, so where do I stand in getting my deposit back?

The only paperwork I have is my order stating estimated delivery of 20/6, which does state the £1000 contribution.

It's an old trick of the trade to get you to buy something you didn't want.

Tell them that if they fail to honour the original contract, you'll be wanting your money back as they've breached it and you'll take your business elsewhere.

I'm thinking that since the car is already built, they must want to sell it soon, so I'd suggest you go back and say that either they sell you the built car for the price you agreed, including the options, or you'll be getting your deposit back.

I'd agree with the previous 2 posts. I'm sure you have every right to your deposit back but the favoured option would be to try to get the 2nd car with the extras for the original agreed price. If they have offered it to you they can't have abuyer for it. Go and blag a deal,;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

In addition to above, if they refuse both threaten court action for breach of contract and they'll likely get scared

The story they are telling may be true, but if you don't like either option they are offering you negotiate a deal on the built car you do like or ask for your deposit back.
Better yet, look for a 3 to 6 month old with 20% or more off list and buy that, if your not getting your exact choice of spec. may as well get 20% off.

I think I can guess which brand this is!?

If it is who I think it is, they tried this with me when I ordered my car, I said if they do not get me the new car by the 'agreed' date at the agreed price then I will walk away!

They wanted an extra £1K for the new car, and would give me £500 less for my part ex if it went into the following month which to them was the start of a new 1/4 for them.

Stand you ground or haggle hard and get the car with the extras with a discount.
