Allianz LCD TV Insurance - Amazon.co.uk

Hi,
my girlfriend recently bought me an LCD TV from Amazon *just under £1000). She also purchased 5 year insurance policy from a company called Allianz which is for breakdown and accident cover. It was £125.
One of the things that worries me is that it says in the policy document that it DOESN'T cover 'wear and tear or gradual deterrioration of performance'.
That sounds like a bit of a get out clause to me.
I was wondering if anyone has any experience of this company or whether they think that this is worth it? I'm thinkiong about cancelling it and just get it cover for accidental damage on my contenst insurance.
I've heard that LCD's can be a wee bit dodgy. I've got 45 days to cancel it so any advice or help would be great.
Thanks very much

Unfortunately not. That would have been great. Thanks though.0 -
Allianz bought Cornhill Insurance. I think they are a good firm.
The policy you have bought probably has no excess. The excess on your home insurance is probably about £100 and if you were to claim on your home insurance you would lose your no claims discount.
Both your home policy and the Allianz policy will exclude wear and tear; it's an insurance policy to cover damage, not a maintenance contract.
The bottom line is: if you intend to drop the TV and break it in the next 5 years, keep the Allianz policy. If not, cancel it and get your money back.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -

Thanks for that. The policy is supposed to provide accidental and breakdown cover which is why my gf bought it I suppose. It just seems a wee bit odd that it states that it covers breakdown and then in one of the conditions it states that it doesn't cover wear and tear.
Thanks for the info though. It's definately food for thought.0
