I wouldn't pay too much attention to it, not when there's more important things to look at like response time, dvi input and getting a quality brand so you're less likely to get any dead pixels.

am not to bothererd about dvi (although i do have a dvi slot i think)(and does it really make that much difference) to be honest. just seen a few samsung ones that were good price, had 2ms time but then were 800.1 contrast, so didnt want it as was told you needed at least 3000.1 contrast.

ps i have vista ultimate to will that make a difference.

Contrast ratio becomes irrelevent when you use the device in a household situation with artificial light and natural glare, considering the tests are usually carried out in rooms that are in total darkness to give you the ratio with two different tests which give two wildly different results.

You do get a better picture with dvi or hdmi than using VGA

I use a Viewsonic 19" monitor that has two inputs VGA and DVI, dvi is much better clearer picture

Personnel I wont buy another viewsonic monitor because I have had no end of problems getting it to work in widescreen despite using loads of different drivers, it can take hours to get it to work in XP, but eventually I do get it to work its just initially

I have a couple of Samsung TV's so my next purchase will be a Samsung lcd when I upgrade the kids pc they can have my viewsonic

sorry to hijack the thread, but i was also wanting a new monitor, and was thinking of getting the LG L207WT 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor (£176.24 inc VAT), what does anyone think to it? the contrast ratio looks pretty amazing compared to the others

    any opinions?
  • As others have said the contrast ratio is not so important with PC monitors as it is with TV's. Others have said that the response time is one of the most important things, however I disagree. I have seen a number of monitors with 5ms response time provide a sharper picture than similar spec. 2ms.

I always advise when buying TV's or monitors to go to a shop and look at them in person. The stats can provide some information but you never really know until you see them in action.
