At what point could you get a replacement uk driving license for free, my mates girlfriend stupidly lost it so i bet she would have to pay for 1. Also if the address details on the card are wrong eg license holder has moved address and hasnt told dvla of new address could he get a replacement.

She has to and yes you can although beware of the remote possibility of being fined for not notifying change of details but saying that, I don't know anyone who has.

I had my purse stolen a few years ago with my licence in it, and had to pay for a replacement!

I almost got fined because I did notify the DVLA of a change of details!

I was stopped by a PO for a routine check and asked to produce my documents within 7 days. I had only just sent my licence off for a change of address and didn't have it back within the 7 days. I went to the station with my insurance, MOT etc but explained I didn't have my licence as it was in the DVLA but I had my licence number. PO just looked at me and read me my right

I thought I was going to be locked up (I was about 18 at the time):eek:

A few weeks later police man is at my parents front door. OMG I thought I'm for it now but it turns out the PO had been so busy reading me my rights he had forgotton to note down my insurance details. I had my licence back by then so I showed it to him and then had a letter saying under the circumstances they wouldn't prosecute this time!

You only get a free replacement if you can send in the old one - ie for an address change, renewal, additional classes etc. If you've lost it then you pay, even if you have an address change at the same time.
