Mint Phone Charges

in Credit cards
I recently received a letter from Mint telling me that my clever new mint card was waiting for me, but before I could receive my new card (to replace my existing card about to expire) I had to call them on 0870 410 0870.
Having called other credit card lines to register cards before I thought nothing of it and made several attempts to call the number at different times of the day over a week. Each time I went through the options but never managed to speak to anyone and hence register. I finally gave up.
I was shocked to find that last month my mobile phone bill had gone up by £15, simply by calling the above number.
I feel very agrieved that what I thought was a respectable credit card company like Mint should be making money in such a back handed way and I will not be renewing my card with them.
Has anyone else had the same problem ?
(Apologies if this topic has been discussed before, I am new to this forum but wanted to vent my frustration somewhere).

Put your concerns in a short letter to them (head it up 'official complaint'), and they'll probably credit your account with a similar amount.
And next time, use www.saynoto0870.com to find a free or geographic number to use. If there isn't one, 'back-door' them by blagging your way in through a different department.
I don't think I've used an 0870 number yet, and I've had a few cards.
EDIT: Missed the bit about the mobile. They may object a little at the cost there because, and especially if you've registered one on your application, you possibly should have used a landline to mitigate your losses?0 -
You need to find an alternative number on www.saynoto0870.com
0870 numbers are notoriously expensive, expecially from a mobile. Personally I refuse to dial them.
You could raise a complaint with them that because of their unavailability it has cost you in "lost" phone calls. They MAY offer you a goodwill gesture.

i use this freephone number for mint as any 0870 numbers are a rip off.
go to saynoto0970.com to find an alternative number if possible.
