Is This Worth The Money?

Hello!
Im wanting to buy a new laptop. Ive done some research and i think this one would be good for me.
I need something with a dedicated graphics card 512MB+ and at least 2.0ghz processor! Also with as much RAM as possible and at least a 250GB hard drive.

I think this one is ok? But i was wanting to know what everyone thought?

Is this worth the money? I can get 5% off it as i found a code that works making it £665 with free delivery etc.

What does everyone think? Can anyone recommend something? I really need help?! The cheapest ive found it is at comet with the discount code!

Thanks!

    Looks okay to me.

Price is the same as online

You may be able to still get 3.5% through Quidco too

Why do you need dedicated graphics? Bear in mind that you will only see about 3.5 Gb of RAM and the Graphics card is using 512Mb and some is reserved for the BIOS etc.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • Ive been told that the programs i use at uni will run better on a dedicated graphics card. I use 3dmax and stuff cause im a computer game design student.

    Thanks CHR15!

Ahh, fair enough then. Looks OK to me assuming portability is important. You'd probably get a better spec desktop for the money but I guess you need to take it to college with you.

Make sure you go to the 3ds Max website and check the graphics card is compatible, and overspec the laptop if you can.

If I were you then I'd seriously consider a desktop for use with uni work. Not only are you going to get a better specification computer initially, but you'll be able to upgrade as your course goes to ensure you're keeping up with progress. Not tom mention that laptop's are favourites of oportunist thieves, and I've met perhaps two people in my five years at university who didn't end up playing Solitare in lectures on their laptops ;)
  • i recently purchased a mini external hard drive (250gb). The thing is, its a bit annoying having to wonder around the university to find a computer. our building is good, but when you want to just sit out of the way or sit outside on a bench, you have the freedom to. We have 2 19" screens at university which we work on. I suppose i could get a desktop and set it up in the office? and have 2 screens?

What would you all recommend if i got one?

Its at comet for £699 but being a moneysaver, i searched ebay and today got lucky and found it for £610+£15 p&p. But i knocked the P&P off as i dont live far away AND made him an offer of £595! So in total (Excluding the P&P i saved a total of £104.99!!!!! Hurray!!

My new laptop will be with me on sunday for £595 instead of £699! Hurray!
Thanks for your help everyone! :)
