Yahoo e-mail account hacked

right about a month ago I got a spam e-mail that was from my husbands yahoo account. Thought nothing of it. Did not look at the headers to see where it had come from.

Well I got another one today again spam but coming from my husband. Any how checker the headers and it is does indeed seem to be coming from his yahoo account.

Got him to login and look and it has indeed come from his account as it is in his sent mail. It has been sent to everyone in his address book. And looking at the one before it seems to have been sent to people who's mails he has kept.

We have changed the password and we already had avg on but no fire wall apart from the one in the router we have had for years. I use to use zone alarms.

I am now a little worried because we internet bank amongst other things as well as buying on line which involves putting in credit card details.

What is my next steps apart from finding a firewall software.

Yours

I don't think the Yahoo account has been hacked but you probably have a virus that's sending emails to everyone in your address book.

I would update your virus software or try a few online scans to see if any of them can find the virus and remove it, nortons free virus scan is a decent place to start as it's always up to date:

    Hi,

geewhiz is right it is unlikely that your account has been hacked, you definatly seem to have a trojan or something on your machine. Get yourself a good anti-virus software program!

Yahoo accounts can be hacked, I have lost a few myself.

But now I have very strong passwords and not lost any for quite a while.

If you know the infomation you used to register DOB etc you can retrieve the account.

I have the current avg edition that is updated every time the machine is loaded.

I have done a google and can find nothing about yahoo mail and any viruses that can effect it.

I know that outlook can get infected and yahoo checks all downloads.

I know that web pages can be hijacked but had never heard of a web based mailers being effected by viruses. As I did think virus but then discounted for the reason above.
