private car park fine-at work

  • You have received an invoice, not a fine. Only a court can fine you.

The invoice will be made out to the registered keeper of the vehicle. The registered keeper is not always the driver. The company has no legal ability to force you to tell them who was driving. Which means you can tell them to foxtrot oscar. They're not going to take you to court over such a small sum.

while I agree with the sentiments of posts #2 and #3 an easier option might be , if your manager lets you and it suits you: Do a bit of overtime you wouldn't have otherwise done to get the fine paid.

it's already well established that these private car park operators have no legal powers to fine you, and use threats of debt collectors etc. to try and scare people into paying up.
This is what I would like to clarify! On all the forums such as pepipoo there doesnt seem to be a thread that involves your place of work- it's harder to ignore when your manager is ringing you at home!
Personally, I wouldn't want to work for any organisation where I had to pay to park at my place of work,
I am a nurse at a hospital. After I received my ticket I rang up car parks who informed me that as staff I cannot park onsite period. (I have been working nights due to childcare for past 9 years so am a bit out of touch on the car parking front!) When I asked if I can upgrade my permit to a day permit I was told that if I work 2 or more lates a week ( i dont) I can apply for a multi storey pass. The other alternative is car park on local zoo which has a 2 1/2 year waiting list!!!. So I am left with parking 1/2ml away and walking- think of the health benefits!
However your real sin is not tackling it at the time. So if you can't get any quick answers it might just be prudent to pay and then fight it from the moral high ground.

But with my sod em all hat on tell them to get stuffed, your manager's line would just irritate me so much...arghhh.
I know I could kick myself but I also never in a million years imagined that I would get harassed by my manager---it's this that is really annoying me!
I feel that the private car park know that they can not get the money so they go through work to turn the thumb screws on. It feels immoral!
If your employer wanted you to work different shifts then they should reasonably have made arrangements for you to park.
It was my choice! now my kids are getting older felt I wanted to get back to normality and come off permanent nights.
The invoice will be made out to the registered keeper of the vehicle. The registered keeper is not always the driver. The company has no legal ability to force you to tell them who was driving.
Yes thought of this but they could surely just put two and two together and say you worked an early that day therefore it must have been you?!

What irks me is that I feel bullied into paying a fine that I dont think I should pay.
Thank you all for your replies and advice and I think I will have a chat to the union as Belnahua and ticketcollector have suggested.

All seems a bit stupid - suppose at least it's only £25 as it's usually a ridiculous amount like £60 or more.

I imagine a Union will be on your side as a nurse you need somewhere to park to work, i'd be arguing if you can't park you can't work ;)

Why does a nurse need somewhere to park, more than anyone who works shifts in any large city with no parking. I am sure if she says if I cant park I cant work she may find herself out of a job.

Once again it is not a fine, and you should stop thinking of it in that way.

Please join the forum at http://www.pepipoo.com you will get lots of support there.

Your manager has no right to insist that you pay an unenforcable alleged debt. You may find the employment forums at http://www.armchairadvice.co.uk/forum useful. I would suggest that your managers' actions could amount to demanding money with menaces. Re your manager calling you at home about this issue, that is indeed harassment, and if I were you I would put in a grievance at work.

Please speak to your union, and get them to look at the pepipoo website.

Give the local rag a ring, or get a 'friend' to give them a ring.

    They'll love it

"The price of saving lives" or something similar, you'll have an apology quick than you can say "Not flipping Casualty again"
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

Just a little update for anyone thats interested!
Finally the unison reps returned my call.
    • He said i have to pay it as when I signed my car park permit contract I agreed to blah, blah
    • When i pointed out re. pepipoo.com site he said you can quote from some of the cases from the site-it might help your appeal.
    • He agreed that it was a bit of harrassment from my manager but took it no further!
So folks as much as it galls me it seems I will have to pay up.
As a side issue the invoice from first management group has a section for my name and address- They dont need this if they are getting their money so why should i fill it in?
Many thanks for all your help

I don't see how your employer can discipline you for not paying a parking fine, it hardly amounts to gross misconduct or a lack of competency. It has nothing to do with your manager really.

You need a new union representative :-)
