Driveway paving quote

I have had a couple of quotes to do block paving on my driveway.

The total area to be block paved is 60m square.
50m square of this is currently gravel, the remaining 10m square is lawn.
Work includes removal of all existing gravel/lawn, installation of hard core and then paving (with standard edging etc).

The 2 quotes so far have been £3400 and £5400.

Both are more than I was expecting (father-in-law had 70m square paved for £2500 a year ago).

Are these quotes taking the mickey or are my expectations out?

Also, can anyone tell me what the relative costs of imprint concrete and tarmac are compared to block paving? I may have to look at these if the block paving is just too expensive.

Thanks.
