Ok! Who's picking on me at MSE HQ?

On several occasions recently, I have tried to post a reply to a thread and after typing out my drivel well thought out remarks, I click on the post button and get an error message.
It says something like:
There has already been a message sent from your ip less than 5 seconds ago. Please try later.
Now I KNOW it wasn't me....I don't type that fast!
The screen gives you the option to go back, but when you do, your post is lost!
Very annoying to say the least.
I've now got to the stage where I'm wondering if someone at HQ is clicking the stop button everytime they spot my posts!
(I am joking!)

As a temporary fix, prior to clicking the post button highlight (left click & drag) your text & copy it. Should it fail you can simply paste it when you go back. ;D
PS - Thank-you for PM0 -
Thanks for that Tony. I'll need to start doing that as a rule I think.

Forums like this often have a bit of code which prevents spamming of boards, this is an effective & simple solution.
As your finding out though, when a board gains in popularity this system can become flawed. It's most probable that there is a new member whom shares a similar IP address to yours & this is what's causing this error.
Brendan will be able to offer a more comprehensive explination as he will be familiar with the boards exact settings.

The YaBB forums have a spam prevention tool, yes. By default I believe it stops you posting twice withing 45 seconds.
Being that YaBB is a popular forum system, it was required, since spamming has an adverse affect on the forum system, as well as the users... It causes the servers load average to increase dramatically.
aliasojo: Just so you know, we can't do such things from hq, we can only remove threads, posts, etc... No stop buttons
Also, 90% of ISPs in the UK use dynamically based IPs, which change everytime your computer reboots, or if you're on dialup, everytime you connect. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
45 seconds
I didn't think I could type fast but because I have several boards open at once and flick through each one to reply I get that message all the time!0 -
Trust me, its possible, I'm a forum ex-addict, and posting multiple posts in 45 seconds is NO problem to me
Put it this way, one forum of which I was a member, my total post count by the end of two months was 19,000The running up missed by 7 posts
Unfortunately he overtook me recently.... how dare he :P (Don't worry, I can reclaim my title as "God" easily

Interesting point, but there were minutes between my posts, not seconds. :-/aliasojo: Just so you know, we can't do such things from hq, we can only remove threads, posts, etc... No stop buttons
Thanks, but I don't believe you.
I think you sit in your MSE HQ wearing loads of wooly jumpers 'cos Martin won't let you waste money on heating, and as a result you have a strong desire to wind people up just to release your feelings of frustration at being trussed up like a chicken in wool.
I think you may even be the phantom thread bumper often mentioned in the Arms.:-* ;D
