CC fraudulant transaction

Options
Our cc was used fraudulently, not sure how they obtained our details; either card was skimmed or details taken by an unscrupulous employee.

Fortunately the company who had an item ordered on our card sent us the invoice with an unknown (to us) address for delivery. We stopped the card immediately, sports company hadn't dispatched the goods either so they stopped the order. Have reported the crime to the police, hopefully they'll get the bu**er who did this, as it's very inconvenient being without this card whilst they send out replacements.

Has anyone had this happen to them, do the police do anything? We have given them the delivery address which is legitimate, so will they charge the culprit?

You've probably more chance if the card issuer gets involved (and they should) - the police are only likely to do something if they're illegally parked...

it depends, if the delievry address is local to you then the police may quite possibly get involved. if the credit card company and sports company give you as much info as possible ( the name and address of the reciever of the goods) then you may find the police will be interested.

the most obvious way your card has been scammed is if you used it to buy petrol, the cashiers will just write down the card details and the security number on the back ( this is needed for most online purchases which would indicate the card has been viewed by the culprits). petrol stations employ anyone as some of the shifts are not too sociable, no disrespect meant to any petrol staion workers but in my experience most of the frauds have originated in a petrol station, the person who gets the details will get £5 per number and sell them on to the one who does the ordering. they will try a couple orders for 50 to 100 pounds, if those go through some larger or more frequent orders will go through as your card will be ' a live one'.

the only problem is that these crimes take ALOT of work, we are not talking of 2 hours of investigating, we are talking months of investigating and the police will know it wont just be sports goods found at the house, there will be allsorts and may involve the hitech unit and the financial investigation unit.

although i havent said this and i dont condone it, it may be better to go around with a baseball bat and administer your own justice. it may otherwise take years to solve the crime enough for the cps to agree a prosecution.

sorry it is not the positive answer you wanted but these crimes really do take THAT much work to get enough evidence for a prosecution and if you live in an area which is busy for the police then they may not have the resources to give it the attention it requires.
